Recently announced in the Japanese magazine "Famitsu", Resident Evil 5: Alternate Edition is effectively what Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways was. CAPCOM claims that the amount of content included is too big to be DLC, so the game will be re-released with the new content included, and you will be able to transfer your save data from your original RE5 run through to the new game.

The text is all in Japanese, and the images appear to show Chris and Jill as they appeared in a flashback sequence in Resident Evil 5 (trying to avoid spoilers here) in a replica of the Spencer Mansion from the original Resident Evil.

Here is the summary of an interview that BIOHAZE.COM scored. These are only the main points, but not the interview in its entirety. I'm sure more will come.

Quote:
- Capcom came up with the name "Alternative Edition" because the term "Complete Edition" didn't seem appropriate when considering the adequacy of the original package.

- Capcom wanted to place the new content in the original release, but felt that the game was adequate already, and wanted to get it released soon.

- When the original game was released, players expressed their desire to play as Jill.

- Capcom originally proposed to make the new content downloadable, but there was too much content for that.

- The game begins at the entrance of the Spencer Mansion featured in the flashback of the original game, but fans of the original Biohazard will certainly love the new content.

- The Spencer mansions in Biohazard and Biohazard 5 are indeed separate.

- The game is intended for the PS3 Motion Controller. The series' combat system warranted the addition of the motion controls. The game uses the Dual Shock 3 to move the characters, while the Motion Controller is used for attacking and other functions.

- All the DLC content for the original release can be enjoyed on the Biohazard 5 Alternative Edition disc. Players can play with or against players of the original Biohazard 5.

- Owners of the original can transfer their game saves, trophies, etc. to Alternative Edition.

- Capcom is thinking about adding new costumes and game modes as well.

- The blood in the main hall of the mansion symbolizes that an incident has occurred, and gamers will understand as soon as they step in what that incident was.

- The original Biohazard was a game that did not have a cooperative aspect to it, though Biohazard 5 Alternative Edition will have it in spite of their similar environments.

- The behind-the-shoulder camera will be used, although if you noticed from the screenshots, there are no enemies present…

- When asked whether the enemies with be majinis or zombies, with regards to this chapter, Capcom is making preparations for the type of enemies to be included, especially since the setting is Spencer's mansion, with him actually living there.

- Capcom believes the game will have the types of rooms and locations fans are expecting.

- Takeuchi finished just Jill's episode in 1 hour and 40 minutes, but that is because he is an experienced player. New players should take around 2 hours the first time. Of course, this isn't the only new content being included…

- Capcom understands that there are varying tastes for the Biohazard series up to this point.

- Players who both played through Biohazard 5 and have yet to try it will enjoyed Alternative Edition. Capcom would like buyers of the new PS3 Slim to try the game out, as well.

- Capcom is preparing the Xbox 360 version in a different form, and asks gamers to wait for more information on that in the future.

I'm more interested to see what they do with the 360 version. I still have no plans to buy the PS3. I'd imagine it'll be fairly standard controls, but there's not a whole lot of info to go by.

Interesting I guess...I wonder if CAPCOM will ever give us what we want though and just do a remake of RE2, or a NEW game with the atmosphere of horror of the old games.... instead of all this random pussy-footing around XD....*cough* Darkside Chronicles * cough* and now this milking of RE5 *cough*.

Keep reaching for that rainbow on the RE2 remake...

Since they've talked about rebooting the series, perhaps they'll go in a different more scarier direction next time.

Intersting, this is the second game capcom is effectively re-releasing with shiny new features rather than making new games. As they are also remaking Street Fighter 4 as SUPER Street Fighter 4 with more characters and tweaks and shit.

But it's gonna be at half price, and like usual second takes of street fighter games will improve upon what was broken or becoming a problem. That's a pretty good deal considering.

Hey, the released RE4 5 fucking times, and each time it sold well. You can blame the sheep who must own each copy. I actually have met people who will buy *each* version of a Resident Evil game, even if there's no difference between systems. I don't get it.

When this one rolls around, if RE5 is still fully playable on this disc alone, I'll sell RE5 and buy this. If not, then I don't know. If it's only half price I guess it's no biggie, but I don't see myself paying full price for half a game either.

standard controls will still obviously be implemented, and Capcoms not foolish to not release the title on 360, even without the added wand functionality. Considering that the wand will require both a camera and the wand, as well as a PS3 I don't foresee that becoming a huge feature. Two peripherals that you have to buy separate for the lowest selling system doesn't exactly strike me as a huge money making venture. Theres a damn good reason this was quickly announced for 360 as well.

There also better be a damn good reason they're in a replica of the Spencer Mansion from RE1, because you'd think they'd take time to design some unique stages.

But then, maybe they're just trying to pay a huge homage to the start of the series or something.

cause thats where they found spencer dead at weskers hands... Thats really it. Spencer just happened to really fucking like the architecture of that mansion I guess... Were you expecting some originality from capcoms replacement team for the series?

Hey, the map design was fresh enough in the main story of 5. You'd think Spencer could do with a change of scenery too.

Of course, the replica mansion may just be a *part* of the overall Estate, and perhaps ultimately you wind up at the more castle looking one from the flashback.

The whole time I'm watching the PS3 Wand Controller demo all I can think of is Nintendo saying Stop Copies Me and how the X360 version may have Project Natal for the motion controls unless Microsoft makes a wireless controller like the PS3 Wand.
